Default Breather Timing Question

Well.... I thought I knew how to install the scavenge pump with the breather timed correctly but I think I was wrong.
I thought it got timed to the pinion gear mark (see photo) but I read it gets timed to the timing mark on the flywheel, or is
it neither ?
Any help would be appreciated.

the timing mark on the flywheel is only used for ignition timing, it looks to be correct in the pic, line the marks on the cam gear's in the cam chest... why do you not think its corect, what does your factory manual say ?

I don’t have the factory manual, I do have 5 other books and booklets and none address it in detail.
I was reading a year old lengthy post on another forum about a guys UL puking oil, he had re-timed the
breather multiple times and posted how he was doing by putting the timing mark in the window and posted
this picture of the / a manual as confirmation.

Just look - if the flywheel mark is in the center and you have what you have in your photo - your good

good to be cautious - but dont over think the directions

John, thanks for piping in.
So here’s the question of the day, anyone that has a factory service manual will know the answer, I don’t have one.
The guy from the other forum is using the timing mark on the flywheel and posts a picture of the manual that says that’s how to do it, Pete says to use the cam timing mark on the pinion gear which is what thought was correct.
Both methods can’t be correct, when the oil breather is timed to the pinion mark the flywheel timing mark is nowhere near the hole, the breather timing is radically different depending which method is used.
Only one way can be correct, is it the manual in the picture or or the pinion gear mark ?
Does anyone have a factory service manual to confirm which way is correct ?

I misunderstood Johns response on breather timing and he is correct, the breather
gets timed to the timing mark on the left flywheel NOT the pinion cam timing mark as in the first picture.
Thanks John.

We use a spring loaded stop for doing the timing but its not really needed
