I think you mean, what additional work is needed to mate these besides bolting them together. I can't help, but I'm sure someone with more knowledge will answer.
Yes, they can likely be made to work. But it will require a shop that has experience doing that type of work on the older engines.
The case halves are matched at the factory and stamped so they stay together. The biggest problem with using different case halves is getting the left and right case races aligned. We aren't talking about .001 of an inch, they need to be much closer so the races can be hones so that they are aligned. If they aren't aligned, the bearings will not last.
Put a straight edge across the top cylinder decks once you have to 1/2s bolted together - if you feel anything across the gasket surfaces they need machining and also install the jug just so you can try 2 jug holes are round if its stiff to install then that most be addressed as well
then set the set in the frame your using and bolt one rear bolt snug not too tight then shine a light across the other rear area in a dark room see if the light shines through - if so do the other side the same way - if its rocking to side to side then all 4 feet need machining
in some cases its just cheaper to buy a matching set labor alone could surpass the overal value of a set that is right

Yes it can be done, I have matched cases but it does take a lot of work and we set them up in the mill and resurface the cylinder portion and motor mounts.
