Default !965 HD Flathead

I have the opportunity to purchase a 1965 Harley Davidson Flathead. The bike is in frame/fender/wheel only condition. No motor, drivetrain, seat, cables etc. The frame appears to be original, fender primed, handbars and brake rotors intact. Appears to be straight. Does anyone have an opinion as to a bike opportunity like this--- what I should pay and cost to buy engine and out fit bike mechanically. Thanks

maybe $100 for the whole deal. I think it was in the '70s before harley started stamping frames so there is no way of knowing how old that frame is.

Its a Servi-car I presume? Don't think flatties were still made on 2 wheels in 65.

The final year for a street model was '56 but the road racing model (KRTT) ran until 1969 reaching speeds of 150mph. I suppose it's possible that it is a KRTT but only about 600 were produced. However, none were produced with brake rotors, just brake drums.

Just my 2 cents, harley stopped production of the solo 45 in March of 1952. There were no "solo" 45's made after that. The solo frame was cut from the production line in Dec. 1950. The balance of them were only assembled through 51 & into 52. There were however the 587 race models that were made from the left over solo frames which were modified slightly, the lower casting where the trans bolts in is of thicker material, as the original frame was prone to crack . A 65 flathead will only be a "G" model which is a servicar trike., And as stated befor , the 45 never had rotors. the servicar trikes were made with both mech. & hyd. brakes, but all were drum brakes.
Not trying to be a smart ***, just trying to set the record strait. If you havn't bought it, you probably shouldn't. You will spend 8-10 grand buying the rest of the bike over the next 5 years. & thats if your lucky, & you do 90% of the work. If your dead set on a flathead, do your home work!! Its not for everyone. If the guy is saying its a 65 flathead, he's either lying, or he's an idiot !! Take your pick, he's trying to unload it to the guy ,"HE" was last year when he bought it. I would offer him $100. if he has a title, which he doesn,t. Good luck!
