45 Cam Cover Removal help

Hello, I have a 45 motor that I need to remove the cam / gear cover for. I have the screws, oil pump and distributor out, but the cover will just not come off. I would assume that it is stuck on the locating pins. Is their an acceptable technique to get the cover off without ruining something? I have a 1941 UL (Flathead 74) and when I removed that cam cover I just lightly tapped it with a candy axle it came right off, so, I am wondering if perhaps I missed something or am tapping in the wrong place. I ordered a shop manual for it, but it will probably not be here until after the holidays and I am kind of anxious to get the engine torn down and a parts list made while I am on vacation.
