You may have a restriction on the PM features because of the lack of posts.
Just communicate with the person in the classified add. Just leave a post, it will send that person an alert. Be sure the ad isn't just an older post that someone didn't mark as sold when they sold the item.
You can purchase items in the classified forums, but you can't list anything until you are past the trial period.
