I am running Windows 11 Pro with Chrome on my laptop and I have an Android phone running Chrome. The same issue occurs on my laptop and cellphone. I don't know if this is a "Chrome thing", if others experience this using other browsers or if it an HDF anomaly. I figured I'd post this because Robb doesn't have enough to deal with.

My issue is purely an annoyance and nothing more. It involves previewing a post. When posting a new thread or replying in a thread and then hitting the "Preview Post" button, the display is scrolled down to the reply box and not the top of the page where the preview is. After hitting the "Preview Post" button and the preview is displayed you have then to scroll to the top of the page to see the preview. Why isn't the display at the very top of the page where the preview is?

In fact, it just happened as I am previewing this new thread. When I hit the "Preview Post" button this box I am typing in is displayed instead of the preview at the top. It just seems odd, that's all. Thanks for letting me rant.

I hit the orange "Reply" button and this is what I see. Notice the "Preview Post" button is not visible on my screen.

Then, I scroll down the page until the "Preview Post" button is visible on my screen and then I click it and this is what is visible on my screen.



Instead of being at the top of the page showing me the preview, the display shows the text I just typed so I have to scroll up to see the preview of my post. It should show me this



Robb, if I type what you typed and hit the "Preview Post" button, this is an image of my screen. I don't see the actual preview at the top of the page. I see the "Reply to Thread" box with my reply so I always have to scroll up the page to view the actual Preview.

 

Does it on my iPad running iOS as well.

 

are you running an ad blocker or script blocker plugin? there are elements in your sidebar that should be in the footer, I have to assume it's related.

 

I am running AdBlock Plus. I disabled it on this website and there is no change.

 

try turning off your signature, does it behave the same way?

OK, Robb, I have some new information. I went into User CP and disabled displaying signatures in posts and saved changes. No change. I logged off and on again thinking maybe that was required to force the changes. No, same behavior. I returned to User CP and disabled displaying images since my signature contained an image. Again, no change.

Then... . With the signatures and images still disabled, I typed a 1 line reply... "Testing". When I hit Preview Post, it worked. The display was at the top. With each successive line added, the preview would drop down and return to the same behavior I bitched about. In fact, it only took 4 lines of text.

My hypothesis is that the behavior is due to the length of the reply, not the signature or images directly. The sig and images increase the length of the reply which causes the behavior. Your suggestion to turn off signatures was a good one. It helped me come to a conclusion and a conclusion it is. I'll consider this solved.

Stubborn me enabled signatures and images again and will continue with the display behavior I bitched about. Thanks, Robb.

 

i still can't grasp why it works that way for you. I just tried with your post above and added a bunch of extra lines and this is how the preview option loads here:

 

What's interesting is that I get the same behavior on a computer at the office. I received a PM from another member who states it behaves the same way for them. Of all the computers I use, the only common theme is using Chrome as the browser and displaying a sig and images. The office computer doesn't have an ad blocker.

It's either that or an American thing. . The good news is that it is a trivial problem. We both have more important things to worry about. Robb, thanks for your time and expertise.
