Default 2003 RK rear brake issue

While riding the Dragon a couple weeks ago I lost my rear brakes. Pedal went right to the floor. No leaks or fluid anywhere. Got back on the road and made way to the resort. By the time we got to the resort the pedal was back and brakes working as the should. Have ever since. I was not using the rear brake too much prior to the problem. The master cylinder was rebuilt about 2 months ago by previous owner. Any idea's what happened?

Lose any fluid from either master or wheel cyl? If not & brakes are back, sounds like O-ring(s) on push rod temporarily deformed from cartridge cyl walls, allowing plunger to simply bottom in cartridge body without pressurizing. Did PO say the cartridge body was good at rebuild? Shoulda been checked, including O-rings on outside of cartridge body. Aftermarket rear master rebuild kits typically only include a new plunger & associated parts like O-ring, and nothing for the cartridge body which is typically not removed to check the rings on it or bore it is in. The H-D kit, however, includes plunger, O-rings, spring, AND a new cartridge body for not much more than a limited aftermarket rebuild kit.

Maybe was a temporary ring deformation on either plunger or cartridge body, & won't happen again (unlikely). But if does, I'd be looking at a proper/complete cyl rebuild using the H-D kit if twas mine. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I will buy the h-d kit for my own piece of mind.

One more question. Are the master cylinders different between Police bike and regular Road King? I have the FLHP.

Default Rebuilt master cylinder

Not a fan of the rebuild unless I do it myself. It requires an ultra clean environment and absolutely good as new bore. Sounds like you have an issue that will haunt you at the worst possible time. Replace it if you can't rebuild it properly. When was the last time you flushed the fluid???

The reason I asked if they were the same master cylinder is JP cycles said the kit the have will fit a FLHR but not an FLHP. Didn't make sense to me. Same thing with the big bore kits. Maybe its just a error on their site.
