Default Night Train Rear tire

I'm looking to replace the stock rear tire on my 06 NT. The stock Dunlop 200/55-17 has 9000 miles on it. I like the stock rim, not interested in changing it...but tire selection for that size is slim. I did find a tire tread I like, but the size is 200/50-17. Would this fit on the stock rim/bike? The tire is the Avon Storm ST (AV56). If so, how much would the change in size affect the bikes handling?

It will work and handleing will change little if any due to 5% less sidewall. But your speedo will be slightly off on the side of not speeding. Example your speedo reads 60 and your actually going 58-59.

Just a warning, do a little more research on that tire and others in that arena before purchasing. Avon Storms are a sport Touring tire for import section. They are going to be a lot stickier and and softer so you wont get the same tire life out of it, especially if you ride 2-up alot.

Overall diameter is not the only concern. By droping 5% in sidewall height you are reducing the air capacity, and hence the tires load capacity. You will not be able to fully load the bike to its GVWR. This may be an issue if you ride two up. As a 15 year tire tech. I wouldn't recommend it.
