My question, someone having problems with the rear brake caliper keeping braking when heated up?
Since a while, when I have to brake a lot, and my rear brake heats up, it keeps stuck on braking.
My brake pedal has no presure anymore (can push it to the bottom)
Looks like the brake pistons keep stuck in braking position, and do not loosen up.
Someone experienced the same problem? and have a solution?
Are there kits to revise the entire Caliper? I asume they are original.
Since original pieces are very expensive, can someone advice me where to buy, even if I need to change the whole Caliper.
If you have not tried to clean up the caliper and pistons then you might try going to the following link and perform the clean up routine that it shows. The build up of brake dust and crud from the road can cause problems with the operation of the calipers. Give it a try and see if it helps.
If they have been over heating you will have cooke dth ebrake fuld so that needs replacing for a start. CHek to make sure your piston isnt coated with crap and binding and that the claipe rmount moevs freely and the bolts are not siezed where they pass through the caliper. Last thing is to make sure you brake pedal and rod have the corect free play. If there isnt enough what hapens is the brake slowly pumps up as the fluid cant return to the fluid resevoir fully so builds plreasure up in the sytesm each time you use the brake.
Once it starts to bind your on a ever decreasing circle as the brakes start to heat up and the fuild expands increasing the pressure even more till you get to the point the brake locks up all together.
But exaclty what you telling, when it heats up, the fluid expands, and brakes even more, I gut lucky it didn't reach the point where it locks up entirely. But this will ware my pads up in no time. I am going to revice the whole Caliper, placing a revice kit, just in case the rubbers are damaged, and renew the brake fluid.
Probably the piston is dirty, I will take the whole thing apart and clean it up.
yep give it a good servcie as described in link in Arcanes post. Also change your brake fluid as it will be useles sby now. Brake fluid really only has a 2 year life and most same goes for the rubber hoses. If your teraing the sytems down replace the hose with braided ones, last longer and actual imporve your brakes. They dont have to be harley ones, see if you have a hydrulics dealer near you and take your old pipes in and ask him to make you set up in stainless steel braided hose.
