Smile oil on disk pads

Hiya all

I recently trailored my FXR.
On the way there I anchored the ratchets to the handle bars and upper fork area. (unfortunate)
On the way back, I anchored the bike lower down on the forks.
I now have oil leaking all over my brake disks. I have wiped the oil off several times but the pads are so soaked that the disks themselves become soaked.

I have two simple questions -
one regards safety when riding the bike in this condition;
and the other regards operation clean-up.

Any comments/thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
FXR-Mite

Greetings and welcome to the forum. Firstly, have you determined the source of the oil? Second, I wouldn't ride it in that condition for sure!! You need to remove the pads and hose them down repeatedly with brake cleaner to get all the oil off of them. If you leave any oil on them, it can over time lead to uneven rotor wear. Ihad to replace a rotor for that very reason.

Sorry to hear you lashed your ride down for trailering the wrong way and caused damage.

Let's see fork seals bad, leaking oil onto front brakes.

I'd say it's very unsafe and would not ride until I fixed the leaking forks and thoroughly cleaned the brake assembly.

I would consider replacing the pads after cleaning up all of the oil. Odds are if you rode it at all that way the pads are deeply contaminated and may never be right, even with a cleaning.
