Default Fork stem cap?

Here is another newbie question. I wanted to check the torque on the fork stem nut today but I could not get the fork stem cover off (round chromed piece on top). The service maual only says to remove it. Do I screw this off or pry it off? My bike is a 1988 Heritage Softail Classic.

Thanks in advance for your help guys. I now know someone on this forum will know!

Default RE: Fork stem cap?

It un screws counter clockwise to come off. I believe the setup on your bike uses the fall away method , not the torque to spec as uses on others. https://www.hdforums.com/m_90127/tm.htm
