Well, not really. HD produced both models at the same time. The Dyna was cheaper to manufacture. The discontinued the FXR and the Dyna remained.

Aside from the rubber mounted engine, they don’t seem a whole lot alike to me. Look at the frame and the battery box on the bottom pic of the Dyna. Rear fender strut and fitment of rear shocks is different as well. I had an ’85 FXRS. Didn’t look like that bottom picture.

Hi guys,I'm picking up an '89 FXR that runs fine but needs a little cosmetic TLC so I'm totally excited!
No pics yet but they will come,I plan on a frame up restomod job that may take a couple years to complete.
I practically stole it thanks to a good neighbor friend Mike,he's no longer able to ride and wanted it to go to a good home so he is selling it to me for $3500.
Great guy and he knows what it's really worth,he actually was selling it to his best bud Rob who is also a friend of mine for $1500.
Rob came by my place and showed it to me a couple weeks ago and I told him if he ever decides to sell it let me know.
Well a week later Rob died of a heart attack and Mike got the bike back,Mike left a note on my gate to tell me Rob had passed suddenly and to give him a call.
Small rural town and Rob was well known and liked by many, sad day and a shock to us all but after giving Mike a call and telling him Rob and I talked about selling the bike to me if he decided at some point not to keep it Mike offered me the deal without me even asking.
I have been looking for a good deal on an FXR project for quite some time so I was stoked about getting it and told Mike I was sure Rob would be happy to know I got it and will make it nice.
This is not my first FXR,I bought a low mile (5000 miles) 1984 FXRS Lowglide many years ago and spent 10 years and 125,000 miles with it,really loved that bike and kept it through several other bikes but sold it in 2002 to pay off the 2000 Electra Glide I bought new.
I had an '89 Electra I traded in on the 2000 and kept the FXR for another couple years but the payments were killing me at the time so I caved in a sold it.
Always regretted letting that bike go but well sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do and the baggers were for me and the Mrs. to travel together in comfort.
Fast forward about 20 years and I have a new M8 Electra Glide a much better job a nice home and more disposable income, sold the 2000 a year ago with almost 200,000 miles on it and wanting a solo bike for the twisty mountain roads up here where I live so this deal came at the right time.
Anyway getting long winded here I guess so I'll just say glad to be back in the fold and will post pics of the new bike when I get it and progress as it comes along.
Meanwhile a few of the other bikes, cheers all!

Well here she is,I slipped on down the road to get a few pics and visit with neighbor Mike who I'm buying it from.
Just waiting for him to get the title and then I'll be the new owner.
Going down to the bare frame when I get it home but it's not a half bad looking bike as is for $3500 .
Full resto-mod will be done before I start riding it,I'll have some take off parts for sale or trade.
I want to go back to mid controls so the forwards are going to go,seat sissybar bags and some other parts will be going as well.
I gotta sell my Ironhead Sporty to make room for this bike so it'll be a while before I bring her home and start on the project.
Any way pics as promised:

Whtch year/model FXRs had the dual front brakes. I've been trying to look at pics but with all the mods I can't tell. I mean like I've seen FXRS with and without dual disc front (I think they are single OEM).
Whitch year would I find (maybe) a dual disc Low Rider?

I believe you're looking for a FXRS-SP (sport). These had the dual discs. The experts here will probably be able to offer other options.

The FXRP's also have dual front discs.
