I don't get it, why?
Fear of fouling I suspect. Perusing the owners manual for the new to me, '02 Dyna, they warn that prolonged use of the enrichener will do that. (Personally I find that right up there with 'Don't put this dry cleaning bag over your head' warnings.') I know how to use the enrichener.

(My '83 FXRT shovel is one of my all time favorite motorcycles.)

That’s hysterical. And probably true. I guess it’s too hard to remember to push the **** back in after 30 seconds or so…. In fact, I think riding a motorcycle in itself is far too complicated and scary for me. I’m going to donate my bikes to charity and sit in a corner rocking back and forth in terror of the world.

You know, I said the above with obvious sarcasm, however I completely forgot about what happened yesterday. You’ll laugh at this. I replaced my fuel petcock yesterday since the vacuum switch stopped working. Amazingly Newcastle Harley had one in stock so I figured what the hell, replace it. So I did. New screen as well. Nice. Changed the fuel line too. Got it all together and went for a ride.

Now here’s the part that makes me question myself… I get about a quarter mile and the bike dies. Ok, I left the valve off. Flip it to run, and off I go. Heading to the gas station (cause I ran the tank down to vapors so I could just tilt the gas away from the Bung) it dies again. So I flip to reserve. Get gas. Get on a pretty busy road and boom, dead again. Now it won’t start. I manage to survive brain dead Florida drivers enough to push it into a turn lane as there was no shoulder where I coasted to a stop.

Scratching my head, I am looking at the valve and I see when I tightened the nut I guess I rotated valve so that the fuel line was bent to a 90deg turn and pressing against the choke bracket (there’s that damn choke again!). I guess it restricted flow enough that it would fill the bowl while it sat for a minute, but would starve it once running for another minute. Luckily I carry an adjustable wrench and was able to rotate the valve to clear the kink. Boom! Fired right up and ran fine thereafter.

So I truly am not smart enough to ride…

WOW!! One of the nicest FXR's I've ever seen. That bike is stunning! Great job on that one!!!

Thank You Craig, much appreciated. The bike was a mess when I got it, it wore me out. But I like FXR's so much when the Lowrider S softail came out I knew I had to make one like a FXR. Burned out on wrenching for awhile I had Dream Rides Tn. install the fairing lowers, and wire the gauges. Pic attached. BTW these new softails ride and handle excellent IMHO.

I can only imagine the amount of work that went into it making it basically look like a brand new factory custom. The amount of work shows for sure, for those of us who know. The Softail looks great too, another one of the best I've seen on that platform, Great stuff man! I'm cringing just thinking about the cost on both of the builds!

Ha! I changed the petcock on my FXR4 last summer. The original fuel line was not available so I used regular fuel line but it didn't have the 90 bend in it. I moved the choke to the slot forward of the original to give the fuel line room to make a sweeping bend. Went on my first right and it leaked. Came home and made a new fuel line and installed it. That one leaked too. Turned out I didn't tighten the clamp enough on the petcock. I used a hose up one size to fit the Mikuni better. The stock fuel line size is really too small.

Speak of FXR. Evidentially, Georgia will not allow this as a special tag. I could get any combination of FX to work on the tag site. Knowing that all of my choices couldn't possibly be taken, I figured out that FXR could be read by some as FVCKSHER. LMAO.

I much like both your fxr and modern take on it. How do you compare the two bikes in terms of pros and cons? Must be hard to choose what to ride. A nice dilemma to have

Those are both very nice bikes. How did you tint your turn signals? Is that paint?

I like the mid foot controls a lot better on the FXR. The mono shock frame is the best riding, handling frame I've encountered in 50 years of riding Harley's. It was the FXR before these came out. Also, the inverted forks are superior to the 39mm that came on FXR's, even with the Race Tech stuff I have in the FXR forks. I have about 60 FXR owner/friends and some are PO'd for my praise of the Softail, but after a ride on a new softie, the majority agree. Outfitting a M8 Softail with FXR fairing etc. was a winner for me. After riding behind batwings, the Tourglide, and the Roadglide, IME the FXRT fairing has the best wind management of the bunch. (Roadglide a close 2nd)
Everyone is different (a good thing) so your experience may differ from mine. Hope this helps.
