Finally fixed my dented tank
Ever since I got my FXR2 the dent in the left side of the tank has gnawed at my OCD. Most never notice it but my eyes go right to it. I know a body shop could fix it right up, but they would paint and while they might get pretty close to the factory “Arresting red” it would always be a repainted tank.
So I took a shot at a paintless dent removal guy who has a special jig to hold and rotate tanks in the best position. Since my motor top end is up at Hillside getting some special love, I figured now is the time. Boxed it up and gave it to Mr. Brown with a $1000 declared value. Arrived this morning and to my surprise I got these photos back an hour ago.
Before
After
I’ll not be able to make an actual judgment until I get it back, but it looks encouraging. Obviously I have some work to do with the paint chips, but I’ll live with some slightly off colored dots as opposed to that ugly dent.
I’ve gotten pretty close using gold flake base with Harley Crimson Red Sunglow candy topcoat. Close enough IMO.
I’ll get some better photos when I gets home later this week.
If it looks as good in person I’ll be a happy camper. $250 well spent…

Oh, sorry, you were asking my opinion. Well he did a great job considering. My tank had a pretty bad crease which are next to impossible to get 100%, so I’d say he got it to 90%. There is still an ever so slight hint of the crease, but nothing most would notice unless looking for it, or pointed out. Given the choice of that or body shop repair and repaint, I’ll take this all day. I’ll get some photos soon.
