Default Paint

Love my new Fat Boy. The only mod I have done is the SE slip ons. I have been debating what next. Stage one, apes, back rest? I just rode by some fellow Harley riders all with custom paint. I'm talking sweet paint jobs. I think that is the #1 thing on my to do list now. I called the dealership where I bought it. They said it is about $1500 for tank and 2 fenders for flames. Is that about right? I am in Denver is there some local places that might be cheaper?

If I am correct it's about $2,500 for Harley pre painted tins, not sure if that is with exchange. For a tadd bit more you could go to a custom painter and get much better work. However you will have more down time this way as opposed to just swapping out the sheet metal. The paint set on my Night Train was just under 3K

I just contacted one individual that does custom air brush and he said $900 and up. I really like your night train job!

Derick, If you haven't already done the SE intake or similar aftermarket unit, that is a good, inexpensive way for your motor to breath easier and give you a little added OOmph for the pipes. The paint idea is a good one and likely the biggest change you can make to the bike to truly personalize it. But, not cheap...

Hey Storm, love the paint job! It looks like that lightening is really crackling along the metal... cool choice.

No, you are on the other side of the river but copy if you like. I actually found this paint scheme on a website and had my painter tweak it to my liking. Go to Attitude Airbrush and you can find all kind of ideas, that place must have 500 plus paint sets you can check out

I hear this one all the time. First one must understand auto paint, its not all the same. Also bike parts need special jigs to hold them that most regular body shops don't have. Most Maaco's as well as regular collision shops don't paint bikes because of this. The prep at a Maaco or Earl Scheib is minimal to none, usually done by kids or total morons. (would you want some kid working on your bike? Sanding on your chrome, trim and glass? Their paint is an inferior single stage enamel, and the application is rushed. They don't have the expertise to paint candies and exotic colors (at least in a quality manner). They don't color sand and polish their work. Oh, and ask how much they charge for flames at a Maaco. One can't compare an economy paint shop to any quality shop. Its like saying all wines are the same (had someLightning Creeklately)
The cost of my materials alone is more than a Maaco paint job. Here's a pic of my bike, there's enough paint and clear used on this bike to paint a small car. And a good 30 hours of labor!

Now what would happen to the price if you decided to put this same "high quality" paint job on a car? It would jump from $1800 to $4500 like the Camaro behind the bike (without graphics), or it could go up to $6000 like the Vette, with flames.

It all boils down to.........."You get what you pay for"
The paint job on your TOY says a lot about you........................Its the first thing people see, and the most remembered part. I want my bike to scream "LOOK AT ME, I'M BADAZZ" I don't want it saying "Laugh at me, I'm cheap"
