Just replaced mine with another H D battery after 7 years..I swear by using a battery tender all year round. If it;s parked it's plugged in.

Store mine with battery tender on it year round, probably try a Wal-mart battery when needed.

I own several vehicles and implements that require batteries. What I have learned is to get a good quality battery brand that is stocked locally. The few dollars saved by buying online is not worth the inconvenience in the event of a failure / warranty exchange.
For me I have gone with interstate batteries exclusively. Tenders or maintainers (schumacher/powerpulse) are used on all spendy batteries. Tenders on the cheaper ones.
I have been buying better maintainers (1 or 2 a year) and getting rid of the battery tenders. I'm aware of two local shop/garages and a storage facility where a tender is suspected of initiating a blaze.

It's crazy how many people have battery issues. Mine is going on 6 years old and is the original stock HD battery. The only time a tender is on my bike is if it sits more that two weeks and longer. I was gone for work for 6 weeks with no tender and it fired right up when I got home. Now that I live in Indiana it will be plugged in for the winter. I'm sure I'm due for a new battery soon, but this one hasn't let me down yet.

Winter is the only time I put mine on a tender.

Yea that's what I'm getting at. Mine isn't hooked up to the tender and I've never had a problem. The last 4 years I think the tender might have been hooked up one winter. I got riding breaks the other years. It's hooked up now because I move to Indiana where it's cold as ***** and snows. Back in WA I just had to deal with rain for the most part.

My last two HD batteries lasted over 7 years. I will stick with them until I have a reason to change. Like others have stated, I keep my bikes on a tender most of the time.

Buy an AGM battery made by DEKA (the manufacturers for H-D). They are the only ones with a high enough Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) rating for H-D, Around 400cca for touring batteries. The wet cell Yuasa's just don't have the juice.
BTW buy from somebody like "Batteries +" or a dealer who sells Polaris 4-wheelers. They use the same batteries and are way cheaper than the dealer.

This one turns my 107" effortlessly & is very reasonably priced.
