Motorcycle rider, not paying attention, probably had no business on two wheels. Take away his license...........uh............oh,yeah........... .....he's the dead one. Well, put him in a coffin and send him on his merry way. Yadda yadda.
Where do you get this from? What information do you have access to that the rest of us don't, that tells you the rider is at fault for getting killed?

Reason: Clarity
The guy that ran the stop sign in his pick up truck that flashed out from behind the building at the corner and put me in the hospital for three days (and now going on a year in recovery,) only got a failure to yield, (not even 'running a stop sign.')
Unless there is intent, there's nothing 'criminal' in what he did, since I wasn't killed apparently ( per the law here in NC.) Now the lawyers will figure out what its worth, and that'll be it. That seems to be how it works most of the time.
I know it's not exactly the same, but if she was inattentive and had turned left and killed a pedestrian she'd be facing very serious charges. So the same actions result in a biker dying and she gets a minor ticket. WTF?
It seems like the message is, you get a free pass if you take out a motorcyclist. Unfortunately this is the "same story/ different day".
Damn ... tough crew here this morning ... Too much Egg Nog yesterday? Yes, sarcasm ( hopefully that's what it is ) can be difficult to interpret. Had a similar situation happen here several years ago. Unfortunately, she ( yes another old woman ) did the same thing a year later. Two deaths and no repercussions.
In 2003 I bought a brand new (don't slam me) Honda Shadow. I had 52 miles on it when an 80 something year old woman turned left in front of me. The wreck is a complete blank to me but witnesses that stopped to help me said I did everything I could to avoid her but t-boned her on the passenger side. They said I flew over her hood and landed in the highway. She kept going. One couple that stopped were military and the wife was a combat medic. She stayed with me while the husband chased the woman down. The woman didn't even know I hit her. I spent a week in the hospital and was off work for 3 months due to injuries. The state trooper that worked the wreck gave the woman several citations but turns out, the woman was a member of a very influential family in town and none the citations stuck.
We recently took my mother in laws car away from her because she is too old and incompetent to drive. Not a day goes by that she doesn't say she wants her car back. We actually had no legal right to take it but if she gets too insistent we would have to have her declared legally incompetent to get her back off the road. We did talk her into canceling the insurance and turning her tag into the DMV. Thank goodness the wife is retired and can spend a lot of time with her. Otherwise she would be driving to Walmart every freakin day as she had been.
Oh and we were lucky she hadn't hurt anyone yet.

I guess it`s something about society`s attitude toward anything with two wheels. This also holds true for bicycles.

Oh and we were lucky she hadn't hurt anyone yet. Yep ... and one day culpability will probably ( if not already ) be assigned to those who are her children/caretakers/providers.
