I guess it`s something about society`s attitude toward anything with two wheels. This also holds true for bicycles.
This has nothing to do with society's attitude towards motorcycles. If she had turned left in front of a car and the driver of the car died, she would have been issued the same citation for failure to yield and the completed investigation report would be forwarded to the DA's office. Just like it will be in this case.
Left hand turner takes out another motorcyclist.
Seems like a free ticket to take a biker out...
"Gee, I didn't see him"
Why is it so often worded to seem like the bike hit the car, instead of the car invaded his right of way causing bike to hit car?.
65 year old woman, not paying attention and probably getting to old to drive.
Take away her license and make her take the bus, and oh yeah cite her for a $65.00 ticket and send her on her merry way.
I'm 66. Former SCCA license holder. More than 38 years in Law Enforcement to include several courses in tactical and evasive driving. Former scrambles competitor. I still do pretty good and will accept your challenge at the track of your choice. Any day!! Car or bike.

Age really isn't the issue.
I agree with you. If 65 is to old to drive most of us on the forum better start walking!!!

A Challenge ?? Really ?? Is that what this is all about ?? I didn't read challenge anywhere in his reply. Pretty juvenile for a 66 year old.
In Ca, the left turner in the Expedition would be charged with vehicular manslaughter. But the charges aren't filed until the report is finished and the district attorney reviews the case. The charges could take a few months.
BTW, I would be more concerned about the civil litigation and a wrongful death lawsuit. The criminal case is nothing .

Well perhaps a bit over the top, but his point is well taken IMO. Age is just a number for some people (myself included hopefully as I'm new bike shopping this spring at 62 y.o.,) but its also a heads up to be more aware of the toll life has taken on some too. I would hate to see society just grab a number and say at that age you have limited driving privelges without some sort of testing protocol in place.
On the other hand, I was surprised that NC just renewed my license for another 8 years without a check up required half way through that time period.
Where do you get this from? What information do you have access to that the rest of us don't, that tells you the rider is at fault for getting killed?
JustOneDean, you have to be careful with some of the guys who post here. Certain ones like to lay a trap for the well adjusted of us by writing sarcasm, when they know some will not take it as such. In fact, they get off knowing some will bite because it gives them an excuse to make you look the fool.
OKMICK is right, we do need a universally recognized icon for sarcasm, but it probably wouldn't be used very often. Sarcasm is the last refuge of the imaginatively bankrupt. This to be followed by a witty comment.
