Yep, bought 2 of them about five years ago for $19.99 each. They have never failed. As matter of fact, they have both been plugged in constantly for about 2 months. As long as the green light is on everything is fine......except I have not ridden my bike since early November.

Harley didn't change the Battery Tender. The manufacturer did.
Please explain your "not having good results with the new one".

Harley hasn't changed the battery tender cause they don't make them . I bought one a month ago at Walmart and it is definitely a lot lighter. I don't think you are supposed to be able to see the inside. That may be your problem. Mine's been working just as well as my older one. I would take it back cause you got screwed by the dealer. Or maybe if you can tell us what yours isn't doing someone might be able to help.
