Still on the first but sometimes I think the product is defective under the Lemon Law.

If purchasing a used piece of machinery I would say ext. warranties can be valuable as you don't know how the PO treated or ran the machinery & something which can't be seen with the naked eye can bite you in the ***.
As already stated , it is an assurance you won't have to fork out any major $$$$$ for mechanical failures within the engine or covered components.

I purchased my 13 FB with 1400 miles on it & purchased a 7 yr. ext. warranty for 2 reasons:
1st reason being stated above &
secondly, dealer pretty much gave it to me @ their cost. $1162.00
Nice to have friends that look out for ya.
Couldn't refuse that offer.

The thing about these extended warranties is that there is no mileage restriction. The average HD owner puts less than 5K (I think it may be half of that actually) so it's a real money maker for the insurance company. For those of us who ride a lot, AND get out on road trips, is provides peace of mind when away from our garages.

Also, the Tire & Wheel warranty is another bonus. Personally, within 2 months of buying it, I've had a front and rear tire replaced for $50 each under the program, once when I was on the road. It's repaid me 50% of my cost so far.

Depending on your riding style, etc. it could be worth it.

Good price on that warranty! I bought my H-D Extended Service Plan from a Harley dealer out of state because the dealers in my area of FL said the price was non-negotiable. They claimed it was an insurance policy & that Florida state law says you can't negotiate insurance prices, blah, blah, blah. So you paid less than half of retail price & I paid a few hundred more than you. Proves 2 things: EVERYTHING is negotiable & who you know is more important than what you know, lol.

Ya but a warranty only replaces with same model and year so you loss a bad one and replace it with the same wife, unbroken of course. so just stop breaking your wife.

Personal opinion only here but I think if you are not a wrench and you ride your bike for more than bar hoping, either don't own a Harley or keep one under an extended warranty. If you put more than just 4k miles a year things are potentially going to stop working. Many items are wear items anyway but if something major happens you will be glad you have one. Plus, if you have one you can keep your bike in top condition by having other items fixed while you pay your $50 service fee. Just happened to me. A guy earlier said his 07 would be out of extended warranty anyway. Not so. If you keep your machine under one you can keep it going.

My 07 suddenly had the cruise control stop working. I have an extended warranty so flopped my $50 down and said fix it. 15 hours of labor later the cruise control was working. Why so long? Wasn't an easy traceable fix from what I'm told. The electrical guru that worked on it was tracing for a broken wire because all signs pointed that way. Their diagnostic procedures got to a point that it was a guessing game. Change throttle position senor. No change. Change the tach. No change. Finally they ordered a new ECM. Bingo! There was some other things they tried first as well but there's your reason for extended warranty. I had them do a couple other things while they had it apart. My cost for a new bike, $157 and $50 was that service cost thing. Gamble if you like but I say chances are you'll never need it because you have it. But if you do you will be glad you have it.

If I keep the bike which I plan, I think the service writer said I have to spend more for a complete engine diagnostics this time. Compression check type stuff. Think he said it would be $120 or $150 but if the bike is clean another extended warranty. It's insurance for the non wrench. I can change oils and adjust and tighten things but diag'ing a computer, nope.

This is just my second Harley since I started riding. First was a 85 EGC. I didn't buy extended warranty on it and it bit me. At 66K it just about stopped on the road. Engine was fine. Just about everything else gave up. I sold it back to the dealer and took my money down to the BMW dealer and came home on a new K bike. Said then if I ever get another Harley it would always have a warranty. Actually I wish I still had that 85. Think it was a better bike. Problems it had was electrical but all those problems have been fixed in today's bikes. What nearly stopped it was wheel bearings. New tire and rear bearing and the dang thing started throwing sparks 15 miles from the shop. It was the last straw thing.

They do have a catastrophic coverage that doesn't fix the problem, but it does get you out from the unworkable product.

Kinda expensive though, they call these policies a DIVORCE solution.

Suspect that you know how this works though. It's a can't win either way solution.

Read the fine print of the contract manual.

Until death do we part.
Opps, she drunkenly fell off & a dump truck got her.

Seeing some valid points of veiw here and pretty much what I assumed.
I can see where they would work for someone who has limited equipment/tools, work area, and technical experience.
Fortunately, I've never had a failure or needed warranty or extended, and as some have stated it's for peace of mind or insurance. So for me, while the money is not actually in the bank, I have saved enough to buy a new car, truck, or bike by never buying a policy. So I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

I do. Used it once on my 2011 when a brand new tire got a huge nail in it. Saved me from having to fork over another $300+ right then. Peace of mind is also a valuable benefit from having it.

Never been one to buy them for anything, when I bought this breakout in July for some reason I bought one for it with the tire & wheel package. Within a couple of weeks I'd got a screw in that expensive rear tire so it did feel pretty good to just cough up $50 instead of what would have been around $400 total with mount & balance. Will it be worth it in the long run...who knows but like others have said I do have somewhat of peace of mind having it.
