A good tip I got several years ago came into practice some months ago. I stopped for a break in the vicinity of a huge towered HV line (150kV or so) My alarm activated normally. When I wanted to start after ten minutes or so my alarm went off and was not to silent anymore. Of course the starter was blocked as well.
I remembered the good tip of my friend and we pushed the HD some 50 meters or so from the HV line, where the alarm reacted immediately again and the bike could normally be started. The induction of the HV lines and creates havoc in your electronic alarm and starter blocking.
Since than I am very aware where to stop and park the bike, for pushing 400 kilograms to a position away from the HV lines ia maybe a good exercise but not in +110 F...
I recently had that exact situation when I parked next to the front door of a local Home Depot. Alarm activated fine, came out and nothing. Finally had a friend bring a trailer and off to the dealership. Off the trailer, tech fires it up just like normal. Asked me where I had parked and he said, "Yep, happens quite often. Something in their WIFI or electronics blocks signal between fob and system." I thought he was kidding but he said there's a couple of places around town where they get calls from owners with same problem and they tell them to move the bike about 50 yards. Said it works every time.
................ the threat to health by exposure to high levels of non-ionizing radiation is poorly understood, no doubt 100 years from now the guru's will look back and think we were all crazy. ha! Even low level such as repeated close range exposure by devices such as cell phones is becoming increasingly suspect. It is rumored that Ted Kennedy fell victim to it.
I used to work at a place that had huge high voltage towers running though the parking lot...one day I was going to use a non-contact voltage tester outside...as soon as I stepped out of the metal building it started beeping...couldn't use it it ...it was always "on".
All the more reason to never own any machine with electronics like that especially on a motorcycle. Good thing that same electronics is not in a Humvee. Cannot imagine why there is not shielding around the electronics to protect from this.
Recently retired from working as close as 13' from 345K other than a tail everything else is normal.

Either that, or 50 years or hookers and booze.

I don't think its totally without merit, but I tend to agree. I wouldn't want to live in close proximity to an HV transmission line, but normal/ocassional contact I got no problem with.
On topic, good info on the alarm. I don't have one, but several of the group I ride with do. Of course, it would only be a problem if the bar, I mean food purveyor, were located close to such a line.
