I am 71 years old and have become quite attached to all my body parts. If I break something, it will take me longer to heal now than when I was 25; therefore, I buy only the best quality safety gear. I wear Draggin Kevlar reinforced jeans over the Bohn System Body Armor and either Bates or 511 Brand Tactical Boots. I also wear an Arai Full Face Modular Helmet and heavy duty gloves. I also wear a Joe Rocket Riding Jacket with shoulder, elbow and back armor. Also even with the helmet face shield, I also wear protective sun glasses during the day and yellow or clear lenses at night.

Needless to say, I am strictly ATGATT

I like the vintage looking leather jackets. As far as gloves and boots go I have no idea what to get. If anyone can chime in on one or more of the gear mentioned I am open to suggestions. There is a bike show this weekend near Toronto which I will probably check out, and maybe find some things.

Any opinions on River Road leather jackets?

This is the helmet I have been looking at.

Howdy bro.

I have a Bell Rogue and like it very much, including the muzzle which gets mixed reviews. Leathers, including gloves, I get from HD. They do cost a lot compared to some alternatives but the quality and comfort are definately there, Chinese made or not. I like North American made boots with a Goodyear welt. They require breaking in but then are very comfy when properly sized and the fact that you can re-sole them makes them good value even though the initial price will be higher than roto-molded Thai boots. Mine are Chippewa Rallys http://www.chippewaboots.com/footwea...engineer/27862

Do yourself a favor and lay in a supply of Obenauf's boot paste and leather oil for your expensive leather investment. The stuff is a snap to use, so you will use it, soaks in almost instantly and it really keeps leather feeling and looking like new.

As far as the helmet, I bought an Akouri , which is made in Canada, and love it! High quality and very light and best of all no mushroom! I bought the AKOURY-1 but many here have the 88 and love it! Best $90 I have ever spent on a helmet. Check out the many threads on here about them

One of the guys that DJs at some of the local bars broke his jaw when he went down last summer. Any guess on what type of helmet he was wearing?

One of my favorite diagrams - and why I'm a big "full face" fan. Seeing how we gotta wear helmets in canada, may as well be protected. Less wind noise as well.

Following up on some of the comments..
I just bought a pair of Draggin' jeans - haven't had a chance to wear them yet but great reviews and good service and delivery into Canada.

I also have an armored jacket and armored pants.

I've bought a lot of stuff from Canada Motorcycle (I see that's where your links are) - great service and delivery - and if you know what you want and the size - they work.
I'm new to the Harley world - had a VStar cruiser before my Road King - so I haven't bought much from the dealer. They do seem expensive but quality seems excellent. I may splurge on one of the fxrg leather jackets - it's $885 here in canada...big chunk of change but hopefully worth it.

Just my opinions.....

So a few other suggestions as well to possibly broaden the scope as naturally by law of averages most of the posts in the forum are from our Colonial friends in the land of the free whereas to get that stuff shipped to lil ol Europe we pay a hefty postage fee and an even larger import fee.

Leathers - Fox Creek Leathers and sod the import tax and postage
Boots - have a look at Daytona in Germany. all boots hand made and 10 year guarantee. Mine are gortex waterproof and leather and have Velcro fastening. Comfy as slippers
Helmet - Sharkevo line 3. Flips all the way back for an open face as opposed to half way storm trooper look but flips straight over for full face as well. Clear shield can be down when chin bar is at the back of teh helmet. Also has built in sun visor that just flips down.
Gloves - after coming off a bike when I was 14 (46 now) the one thing I have always looked at with gloves isn't just the padding or armour across the knuckles and pads of your palm, it's that the entire Palm is one pice of leather and that there is no stitching on the actual palm...if that makes sense. Leather holds up pretty well when it hits and rubs on Tarmac but the stitching holding it together does not and a glove will peel like a banana.

That's my two pennies worth but much more experienced people on here than me who can tell you where to buy on your side of the water

It would be a good idea to check with your training school to find out what they require for a helmet. The one I went to did not allow half helmets
