Thanks for the info. I planned on buying both a half and full. Full for training and until I get a little more comfortable with riding and my bike. I used to ride a dirt bike and I'm sure it will only take a bit for me to get comfortable and switch to the half.
Congrats on your first street bike ! As far as the gear, My current half helmet is a CORE, it was very reasonably priced, fits comfortably, and it is holding up very well after 4 seasons of riding. I will probably stick with the same brand next time I need another helmet.
The only thing I would suggest on your boots is to think about your seat height as a possible reason to get specific boots... ie, if you are shorter, then you may want thicker soles to help your feet contact the ground more comfortably.
