Tucson has a law regarding car stereos being so loud that they can be heard outside of the vehicle. I imagine a great number of those tickets were written for that. After all, LEO's and teens seem to meet up alot.

Wow... Arizona has some pretty intensive noise laws too.....

"Maximum allowable A-weighted sound levels based on measurements taken at a distance of 50 ft from center lane of travel (R17-4-61. Motorcycle Noise Limits): Model Year/<=35mph/35-45mph/>45mph: Before 1972/84dba/88dba/88dba; 1972-1980/79dba/82dba/86dba; After 1980/76dba/80dba/83dba"

The town next to mine; Mount Vernon, WA, just passed a new noise ordinance with the ridiculous criteria that ANY sound which can be heard over 50 feet away is too loud. 50 feet? Jesus! I'm half deaf and I'll bet I can hear somebody jingling the change in their pocket from 50 feet away. This, in effect, makes every automobile & motorcycleexhaust too loud, makes every slamming car door illegal, and the whistling mailman will probably get the electric chair.

As he should. I cannot stand whistling. I'd rather listen to the most vile rap song at full volume..in the car, rather than here some guy whistling. But that's just me.

I always thought "excessive noise" tickets issued to motorcyclists with loud pipes was harrassment and arbitrary. If the law requires noise levels to be at or below some level, then how can my bike be in violation when I cannot even hear my own pipes when I am riding next to an 18 wheeler? He's obviously making much more noise than me.
I bet if you were behind it or beside it you could have heard your bike.
