If you rode the sportster, don't like it and the dealer will give you back what you paid for it, do it. I don't usually advocate this but when you said the OL liked it much better that's a serious consideration if you want her to ride with you. I'd test ride ALL of them with the OL before you commit to this.

Once you factor in the insurance and maintenance, you know if you can afford it or not. What you don't want is to be riding around with the payment in the back of your mind ruining what is supposed to be a stress reliever among other things.

Good luck!

My only concern I guess is the fact that I haven't really put a dent in the amount owed on the bike and I would be for the most part starting over with the SG. I can afford the payment but going where I'm at now on payments to well over 300 is a little hard to swallow.
LOL, typical Sporty rider - it doesn't take them long to realize the inexpensive Harley they bought because they watched one too many episodes of Sons of Anarchy is a bit too small and under-powered. It's the story of every wanna-be, hence why every Harley dealer has more used Sporters for sale than any other bike.

Now all the Sporty riders will whine and cry and flame this post. So typical.

The reason posts like this sometimes get responses that "whine and cry" is because not all Sporty owners are 'wanna-bes'. Some of us have more experience then the average rider will ever have.

Here in Vegas dealers never have used Sportsters for sale. But they do have big twins that were purchased by 'wanna-bes'. I say that because they quite often have 'used' big twins that have almost no miles.

How am I a WANNA be when I own a Harley and simply want to upgrade my bike. i like the sporty but I like the street glide way more. Pluse my son and wife would be way more comfortable on the back of a street glide than my sportster. A WANNA be is the guy that goes around saying he owns a Harley and wears the gear but I fact doesn't even ride one. I don't understand how one can be a wanna be when I ride. Shouldnt matter what it ride. Ignorance is bliss I guess

You're not. What a jacka$$ post that was. Ignore the fool. And for the record, I'm not a sporty owner but would have no problem whatsoever owning/riding one.

I see what he's saying... many people buy a Sportster because it's an affordable way to say you ride a Harley. I bought my Sportster knowing exactly what I was getting into. It'll do just about whatever you need it to (I rarely ride 2 up or go very far), maintenance is pretty cheap and simple, they handle decent once you get them set up right, and if I want to sell it then I won't take a huge hit unlike with the bigger bikes. Eventually I'll pick up a Softail or something for longer rides but for cruising around SoCal the Sportster is just fine. It really goes both ways - there are Sportster riders who want a bigger bike and then you have Big Twin riders who want to downsize. Then there are people who move onto a Victory or Indian, or a totally different kind of bike.
