For what it is worth The helmet that saved my life got dropped, kicked,
and got knocked off of the counters many times between 2001 and 2007.
It still did just what it was meant to do when the time came.

Helmets are made to fail in a controlled manner to absorb and dissipate energy. Even dropping a helmet can essentially ruin it. However you can have them checked and often even repaired for not a lot of money so it's not a given that they need to be tossed.
What is a "real helmet" ?? I guess a DOT approved half helmet isn't real ? I also suppose if you are incredibly ugly you need to wear a full face....I hope you enjoy all your gear with Kevlar, pads, and leather. Hope it lights up and inflates upon impact also.....

I'd think a non DOT novelty helmet isn't a "real helmet".

That and they make a nice prop for the kick stand on soft or wet dirt, used one as a jack stand so I could change the rear tire once

I always thought placing a helmet on the ground was a sign of distress and the rider needs help.

I used to stick my helmet under the kickstand for years, if the ground was soft.
I still have and use that 45 yr old Bell on occasion.
