Just another thought about listening to other bikes to decide what you like. Many of us do engine mods; head work, larger displacement, cams, etc. All of those things have an impact on how the exhaust sounds. If you find something you like, try to talk to the rider, compliment him/her on the sound of the bike and ask him/her if it is stock or modified. Most are more than happy to talk about their bikes, some are not.

Good to know. Thanks for the heads up. I love the look of some of the V&H pipes, but I"m trying not to rush in to anything.

If you are looking for the "quintessential Harley" sound, then you need to get staggered duals. Here is why: With staggered duals, the pipe openings are about a foot or so apart. This separates the sound coming from each opening & gives you sort of an "echo", or "delayed" sound, which is the quintessential Harley sound you are looking for. On today's current crop of pipes, like Shortshots, or "Big Radius", the pipe openings are too close together, so you don't get the separation of exhaust notes; sounds like one big pipe instead.

Not to mention that staggered duals look the best, too.

Had a Bassani 4 into 1 on an old Kawasaki 1000 that I absolutely loved so went with another one, 2 into 1 for the Breakout. Plus every other Breakout I see on the road has the V&H Big Radius pipes. Love the sound and have had plenty of compliments from others.

Staggered duals is why I like my Super Glide. AFAIK, the only new Harleys with them are Sportsters and the Street Bob.

I know everyone is going to have a different opinion, but I figured this would be the best way to get all the different insights. The only exhaust I've even heard of is Vance and Hines.

Thanks in advance for any and all opinions.

I see in your other post that you got the bike, congrats!

I have heard a lot of good things about the V&H and personally i love the sound. If you want loud that is definitely the way to go. You can always go to your local bike night and that will give you a chance to see what type of exhaust you like best.

I would try and go with a free flowing air cleaner like the Outlaw 587 or the 636v, these Air Cleaners allow you to vent externally, so all the hot, dry, oily air doesn't get back in. And evean if you decide you like the Air Cleaner's from your HD dealer, the great thing is you can still vent externally by using a Hose Style Set up

A picture is worth a million words!

Hope this helps you out, would be great to see pictures of the bike!
