Your only out come is only lose-lose or break even..
Given those probabilities, you did right.. broke even and he left you as he found you--whole..
Still, spooky, hairy as *** And I'm glad you came out ok
You handled it well. When the other guy is being erratic the best thing you can do is be consistent, but in the future the left lane is for passing not cruising!
Think he means this was a two lane road...one lane each direction.
Texas has many two lane roads w/ very narrow shoulders. Im sure all states do...
Driving on those shoulders isn't recommended and several signs will post that fact as they are soft.
But when your going 95mph who cares about signs...or people.
I've only experienced this crap in Texas. It's considered courteous to move far right, even to the shoulder, to let folks pass. The flashing of headlights is the signal that a courtesy is EXPECTED.
Here's the deal as explained to me by DPS officer- if you provide courtesy and an accident happens, you will be held 100% responsible.
No, that courtesy crap is illegal in TX but is deeply engrained in local drivers.
Moving to the shoulder isn't expected.
Not cruising in the left lane is expected, and that's not just a TX thing. Many states have "move right" laws, and not just the U.S. but also in Germany and in other parts of the world as well.
The left lane is for passing, so that people don't have to pass you through your blind spot on the right. It's doing you a favor as much as it's doing them a favor.
There seems to be some confusion as to the facts here. To me it sounds as if -
the OP was on a 2 lane highway (1 lane each side, ex: 1 lane heading north - 1 lane heading south). OP was in his lane, occupying the left tire track - right where he should be imo.
Car approaches from rear at high rate of speed catching OP's attention.
In a very short time cage is on his *** acting like a dick - OP holds his position, not wanting to get into one of those I went right, he went right things.
Psycho driver inexplicably passes on the right occupying the right tire track of the right lane and part of the shoulder.
Had OP moved right, he possibly would have been run over by the passing idiot - depending on the timing of moving right.
I just don't see how he could have done anything differently. As mentioned, he's here to tell the tale so he did it right ultimately.
Which road? Maintain your lane like you did. Remember that if it has more mass---it wins. Shooting a dumbass is expensive. You handled it without getting killed or killing someone. You won. Don't get angry. It is a part of riding. Doesn't make it right but it is what it is. Riding in Galveston county and surrounding counties can be a challenge. Between local grown dumbasses, tourist, and the transient trash down here working construction. I think Highway 6 is the most dangerous road if there is a such a thing. JMO Starts near the island and gets worse as you get near 59. I know several bikers that have been hurt on 6.
