There's a whole universe of urban hipsters out there for whom the idea of a cheap, light, retro (and of course, "ironic") bike has great appeal. There are zillions of them around here riding scooters, and the preferred model is an old Vespa. Some of those people are looking to go beyond scooters, and they have lots of options:
Yamaha is going after them with the SR400, complete with kick-only starting. Ultra-retro.
Suzuki is going after them with the TU250. Ultra-retro.
Honda has a different take on this with their CB300. Thumper with more sportbike styling.
Harley missed its mark by failing to appeal to younger customer base in U.S. That's a fact. Pool of people who love Harleys are getting older and dying. However there is a hope overseas(big markets like India and China) where models like street 750 are gaining popularity. I travel there few times a year and its a pleasant site to see youngsters riding Harleys.
Holy shiznit Mr Marklin. its been a while since I have heard from you. you were on the old motorcycle USA boards for a while.
I do not get this thread at all. it is a completely different bike and a completely different market. I really cant say much about the unit because I have never seen one of the new ones.

The new ones look like the old ones.
Hardly a throw-away motorcycle, most owners can't afford that luxury. They have a shitload of old enfields successfully roaming the wilds of other countries. They carry firewood, animals and whole families, they break down, fall apart, but they are so simple, almost everyone in India is an enfield mechanic. There are alot of old beater enfields held together with wire and rope.
The world is a big place. There are lots of motorcycles out there. They aren't all shiney and covered in chrome.

What planet do you live on???!!!
Everyone knows, to be a motorcycle it has to be big, fat, and loud...
Those other things on 2 wheels are just pretenders, being ridden by pretenders.
Let there be no more blasphemy at the alter of Harley.

Hi jclax,
I've been here for years. But then I'm a HD rider.
You have touched on the very point of my post. Apples and oranges.
PS unlike the old MCUSA forum, this one has a sense of humor, as you should be able to tell by the responses. Roll with it. Oh yeah, I have two Harleys now. Try one, you'll like 'em.
