I ride with my full face (modular) on interstates, half helmet on backroads and city.. The New Jersy Guys call me and my girl Bobblehead, but when we got stranded into a cold night ride, I was the one laughing..
Both Harleys I've owned had wind screens so I don't ride with a helmet shield. I see no reason to subject my face to bugs, wasps, bees, birds, bats as well as rocks and road debris or anything else that gets kick up on me from cages. I see the blood guts and *****s on my screen after every ride. Don't need that crap bouncing off me. I get a few random strikes on top front of my helmet but rarely anything from the side.
I would think you a wise man getting a helmet shield if you don't have a wind screen. Your decision though.
I have boo koo helmets from FF, modular and a bunch of skid lids. It must have been about a year and a half ago I came across a flip up shield that snaps on and caused me to buy a Captain America 3/4 helmet. Great in most conditions but really pays off when it rains. That can feel like needles going into your face at highway speeds.
