Whatever you do, if you are riding in NH, do not take 118 between Lincoln and Warren. Although pretty, a nice twisty, and lightly traveled, there is not a semi-smooth spot on that road. It would have been fun on a dirt bike I'm sure, but it pounded the heck out of my suspension and me last weekend. I was traveling 5-10 mph UNDER the speed limit because of how crappy the road was.

Oh, but if you do take that road, take your fishing pole because there are plenty of places to stop and fish the river.

I used to take trips to the NE every two or three years. From my experience, I'd suggest going to Albany, NY, across the Mohawk Trail in MA, up through NH, VT and the mountains of upstate NY . Nothing against Maine, but US1 in the summer is no fun. Lots of very slow moving traffic. There are a ton of places to see & routes to ride in NH, VT, & upstate NY. Save ME for another trip at a different time of the year. Funny to see that Rte118 west out of Lincoln, NH hasn't changed since the mid 70s haha

North of Niagara Falls, plan an overnight in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Pretty town, nice restaurants and 20 minutes to the Falls. Canadian side way nicer than US.

Just another note DO NOT go through Montreal. There is a new bypass # 30 $3.00 maybe less for bike.

That road could be one of the best roads in the state if they just re-pave it. Lots of curves and elevation changes. But the frost heaves are ridiculous.

I haven't ridden the NE since '79. I started northward in Philly, stopped and spent some time in South Hamilton, MA, not far from Gloucester. It was a nice area. From there, I rode the coast up to the Gaspe Peninsula, which was beautiful. It rained all the way from Maine to the Gaspe, and I got cold and wet in my $10.00 rainsuit but looking back, I wouldn't have had it any other way. The Quebecois were friendly but didn't speak much English, to me anyway. IMO, the Atlantic coast of Canada would be worth another trip by itself without riding the U.S. East coast.

We need a Worst Roads to Ride website to check before heading out!

Apparently I was the only one that didn't know about this road. Of course when you choose roads to take when you stop for a rest, that don't help matters much.
