Hey all.. going to pick up my 05 fatboy later this week. Tomorrow is lockdown the deal day, and picking out gear. I've been all over HD's apparel site.. and I'm thinking a 3/4 helmet for sure. Breathable cut off gloves. Good set of riding boots. But jacket I'm stuck on. I'm buying this bike to transfer from my 10mpg truck as a daily driver even when it starts to get cold. I live in missouri and the weather is atrocious, but I'm determined to do this. It's something I've wanted to do my whole life. I don't really have 5-600 bucks to shell out on the FXRG gear.. but i want something comfortable, visible, and with good protection. Any thoughts?
I just wanna make sure i get something that's got some quality to it. Like i said.. I'm new to all of this. I don't have friends that ride.. i finally saved up enough scratch to do this (I'm 30), and i wanna do it somewhat right the first time.

Personally and no offense, there have been many threads on the subject of which jacket to buy so maybe it would help if you did a search on the subject, just an idea, good luck.
When I first started riding I bought a river road leather jacket for cycle gear. It was about $200 bucks. Still in good shape. Don't buy Harley brand unless that's what you want. Your really just paying for the name. Plus you should save the extra cash so when your Harley brakes down. Every time I've had something happen its well over $600 to fix. Just my .02˘. Check out Wilson's leather.http://www.wilsonsleather.com/catego...cle-jackets.do
Indy dealers and Revzilla are great places to start. The textile stuff is relatively inexpensive, and built well to handle three seasons. Olympia, icon, Joe Rocket, and fieldsheer, are some names that come to mind. HD also carries the switchback, which is a convertible jacket, and also comes in a leather textile combo. you can find very versatile jackets in the $200-$400 range.
