tech at custom shop told me to get a power comander instead of race tuner so i can bypass the o2 sensors on my 07 wideglide so i can run straight pipes on my bike, any feed back would be greatly appreciated
Check out the Vance and Hines fuel pak, it is a great alternative to the other two and it doesn't take the dealer to get r done. You can do it your self.
I'm trying the Fuel Pak in a couple days. $200 as apposed to $600-$700. PC and Race Tuner are more for performance though. The Fuel Pak is just to help your bike run cooler and richer.
yeah i'm another proponent of the v&h fuelpack. (see my post on my nightster w/ shortshots & fuelpack installation.)
i'm just not happy with the performance of my SERT on my dyna, which cost a lot of coin to buy, have dyno tuned and custom mapped etc. lots of hiccups, not smooth on acceleration, and lots of popping on decel.
the fuelpack on my nightster, on the other hand, runs as smooth as glass. and i've never installed anything like that on a motorcycle in my life. always just had the service tech guys do it. but did one myself finally, and inputted the values for the fuelpack according to what v&h recommended for that pipe on my nightster, and VOILA! like magic it works fantastic. and the fuelpack i think cost me $200 or something. whereas the SERT was $450, the dyno was $500, installation was another $300, etc. bringing it over the $1K mark for less than good performance.
as for bypassing the o2 sensors, a mechanic friend of mine said it's better NOT to bypass them, to use them with whatever aftermarket pipe, because 1) it improves overall fuel/air mixture, and 2) if/when the EPA clamps down, it'll be easier to modify aftermarket pipes back to emissions and sound compliance if they use the sensors. don't know if this will happen, but i kept all my stock parts just in case...
I just installed a PCIII and have been really impressed with it - it also comes with the rev extender and that helps with the 4 speed and mountain riding around here.
