Rust on shift rod joint

Rust on shift rod joint
I noticed some rust on the front joint of the shift rod on my bike today. Is this anything to worry about and should I just replace it? The bike has 96,000 miles on it.

Uhm, Yeah,, it's time to fix that. Easy enough.
Best to fix it than have it break when your out enjoying a ride and it decides to let go leaving ya no way to shift.
It'd be a bum ride home stuck in 2nd gear.

Here's a link to what I did. The shifting is tight and no slop in the linkage.

When my RK's original shift linkage failed, I taped it back together with the electrical tape I had in my tool kit. I replaced it with SE linkage the next day. The Screamin' Eagle linkage has a Heim joint.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help. I never thought to spray oil on it since it has the rubber boot covering the joint. I got one of HD's round shifter rods with the heim joints and will swap it out today or tomorrow. Thanks.
