'08 RUMOR: HD Softail Chopper
It wouldn't surprise me considering that Ghost Rider and Wild Hogs were in the theaters recently, could stir some interest in this type of bike. As a sidebar, how many of you remember that the softail design did not come from Harley but an independent company? MOCO quickly bought the design, refined it slightly and we all know how well they have done with that design. I still have the issue of Easyriders that contains the original ad. I think the name of the company was American Eagle or something. I can find it on my next trip to the "archives"
I remember reading years later they had problems with the shocks cavitating. Horizontal shocks weren't very good back then.
Harley was doing a photo-shoot of a Harley-branded softail chopper with a 250" rear for the '08 product catalog.... that this model is going to be incorporated into the '08 catalog
Isn't a little too late to shoot pictures for the 2008 brochures? As far as I know, these are produced almost a half year in advance to get in time for printing and etc.
if you look closely to the brochure's (motorcycle brochures) P/N you'll see that the copyright year for a particular model-year brochure is dated the previous year...

What we do know:
a) There was a photoshoot done after hours in a Deep Ellum (Dallas) location.
b) The scene of the photoshoot was barricaded from public view
c) The bike being photographed was a softtail chassis with a 250 rear.
d) It was an HD photoshoot and participants had to sign an NDA.
Whether or not this plays out as a new '08 model is anyone's guess. But we'll know in about 60 days.
Production model "Choppers" WTF!?!?!? I can't be reading that right. OH WAIT. I forgot about all the OTHERS out there.
Jeeeze. Here I thought a "Chopper" was a bike that was CHOPPED down for performance, and light weight, only having the most essential components, and was all done by the bike owner.
When did the definition change?
*confused*
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
My sources say thereIS a "chopper style" bigtire Softail coming, also look for 103" motors whichare just big bore 96"ers.
I don't know what specific brochures or catalogs the photoshoot was for - the person who leaked the info did not work for Harley but was an employee of the tatoo shop so take his "knowledge" with a grain of salt. However, I don't think it would be too late to be shooting pics for a catalog. For all we know, the catalog layout is completed and all they need is to drop the final pics into the layout. But again, I'm only guessing. (I know jack sh*t about commercial photography and production.)

The production of the catalog goes year-round...I'm gonna take the examples for the Motorclothes and P&A. The layout and "theme" of the catalog is defined a year in advance, and the shooting takes almost six months before it goes to print and reaches our hands.
Sometimes it goes to print with some odd things that shouldn't be there and a re-shooting is needed.
two examples here, and I have copies of these pictures and brochures.
at the year 2K brochure, there are both pictures of the 883 and 1200 Custom models with big tanks that were announced to the press but never made the production (until 2004).
and there's also a brochure with pics of a FXD with dual disc brakes (if my memory is good, I guess that happened in 99 or 2001 don't know for sure).
Maybe what happened in Dallas was a late re-shooting...but I'd guess that the brochures are ready as we write here.
