If I remember way back I was told you should look over it and have no windshield in your line of vision for about 50', closer you would have to look through it
Looking to buy a windshield for m 2015 883 superlow. Suggestions? I went to HD dealer and parts guy measured me for a 17" height. Is one brand better? Attach to handle bars or forks? To quick-release or not?

Hey Vick, I should have mine by tomorrow and I'll let you know what I think of it. This is my first windshield but I'll do my best to tell you what I think of it. Hopefully I can test it before work. Btw, how tall are you? Just curious because I didn't know they measured people for windshields.

how tall doesn't matter , you sit on the bike , and the top of the shield should be in line with your nose.
some long torso peps , some short.
those guys that have ridden thousands of miles looking through the windshield , probably have missed a lot of scenery.

Yeah that's why I was curious as to how they measured someone. How can they say someone should use a 17" windshield if they aren't sitting on the bike. Like you said, everyone's body is different...maybe they did measure while the person was sitting on the bike, I was just wondering.
I'm definitely excited to try out the windshield tomorrow and see how well it blocks the air though. The last long ride I did I was starting to get pretty tired. I'm planning another long ride this weekend so I'll have a really good idea of how much I like it at that point.
I've looked through not over my windshield for thousands of highway miles.
If the windshield is basically clean, it will shed the rain well enough to look through.
(at least mine does. design and angle may play into it)
Yeah, I wouldn't worry so much about rain - fog is a whole different matter. One year, every morning I rode to work was very foggy, I was super glad I didn't have a high windshield because there was no way I could have seen a dang thing. However, I know people that love their windshield way up high, and they ride in all kinds of weather, so I assume they have figured out a way around the issue.

Riding those miles in the rain at highway speeds, I'm not looking at scenery. Only looking at the road and traffic.
But I'm still learning.

My windshield is a stock Harley detachable. It isn't that tall.
I sit up straight when I need to.
never look through a windshield on a bike always set the height so you just see over it .
many threads on this , and how to cut them down if too tall
Guess I'm the exception to the rule, I much prefer to look thru mine. Every time I've tried the shorter ones supposedly at the 'correct' height, I get helmet buffeting so bad I can hardly read signs.
If you keep your windshield polished, the rain just runs of to the sides. The shield keeps me from getting soaked from head to toe and helps with the amount of rain hitting my glasses/shades/goggles. Mask defog on your goggles does the same thing.
Just a note: The issue with any windshield is that there will be just as many drops on the inside as the outside. Even RainX can't help with this issue.
