Default Help with some informations

Hi I am new to the forums and need a little help! I just changed the oil in my wife's 2006 Deluxe with a 88 engine. I drained the oil from the oil tank which was fine but I took out 2 small Allen bolts out of the crankcase and a little oil drained from them. Did I screw up removing the 2 front bolts from the crankcase or should it be ok? The trans fluid looks good and the primary oil was changed 10000kms ago. Thanks for your help

You shouldn't be removing ANY bolts from the crankcase to change the oil. The only one from under motor that should ever be removed is the one from up between your shocks in the transmission case (to drain the tranny oil). You probably didn't hurt anything by removing it. Just put it back the way it was (may be a good idea to replace any gaskets, seals or o-ring that were on it) and keep an eye out for leaks or seeps from around that bolt.

There were no o rings or gaskets on the 2 screws and i was able to remove them with an Allen wrench, one was on the very bottom of the oil pan and the other one was a little higher, only a little bit of oil came out of the, I put them back in after the oil drained and they went back in ok and didn't leak

Never EVER touch those bolts again. They are a tapered fitting, and it is extremely easy to crack the crankcase putting them back. They are for factory use ONLY!

Dude, if you are going to do anything to your motorcycle, get a shop manual.

OR at least do a google search. there are many Vids on how to change the oil and about anything else you do to your bike on Harleys...

Honestly,, I still use Google almost everyday to look something up..

Carefully install the plug and use some sealer on it.. As said above if you TQ that bolt too much you can crack you cases..! not good... Also another thing to look up on the net for answers.

your not the first one that's done it, we get several 1st time oil changers in here every yr that does the same thing. and you won't be the last.

I'm pretty sure those two screws had a proper torque range too. Too loose and they'll leak or vibrate out, too tight and you'll crack the case. If it were mine, I'd reinstall them using a torque wrench.
