On my 2007 Bagger, it worked great in both the left and right side pouch. On my Tri-Glide I purchased HD 3 pouch and because of the air vent, the height of the middle pouch blocked my view. Out to about 10' was blocked, therefore, I removed it and of course paid the 20% restocking fee :-(
As stated it doesn't work from the tourPak.
I would never trust leaving it on the hardbag, when stopping overnight at a motel and or camping ground.
EZ pass as in toll roads? In FL we have an option for a mobile one you throw in your pocket, glove compartment, saddlebag, etc. It doesn't need to be mounted nor visible.
On a semi-related note, I've always wondered if an Easy-Pass license plate camera could read the license plate on an Ultra, being that the plate is kind of hidden from above by a tour pack. It's easy to see the plate from behind at ground level, but how could an elevated camera possibly see the plate?

Yes the camera will read the license plate: About two years ago, I was on the PA pike and two weeks later received a picture from the Turnpike Commission, big as ****, my 07 Ultra Classic license plate was clear as hell. The transponder was read when I entered but not on departure. Therefore the notification that I owed them money, I called and explained that I have a E-Z Pass and only had to prove it was previously used. Mailed them the entry read and didn't have to pay the fine for avoiding toll.
Note: Some of the toll roads around NYC, when the transponder doesn't register, the arm blocking the road won't lift. Then the attendant comes out of the booth and reads your transponder. If you have it attached to the front faring, the only access is to remove the screws. :-) Friggin horns behind you will drive you nuts.
Mine is velcroed to the inside top front of my right hand saddlebag. Reading the transponder is actually easier for the machine through the plastic bag then the glass of a windshield. This position also mimics the like position inside a car. I make sure I ride to the left of the lane (so my bag is in the center) when I pass through to make it read better.
Following cut and pasted from their link: NOTE: Our holder does not currently work with the FastTrak in CA or the SunPass in FL.
Since they don't have a picture available, do you have one and what model did you purchase? Wonder what the issue is with Ca & Fl?
Yeah, their site is not so good. I have the Black Max-08. Click on Motorcycle with fairing, then on Max-08-KLE (bottom buy now button), then scroll down to the one labeled :
"New" Transponder holder in black for bike with handlebars 1"-1-1/4"
The "new" transponders are smaller and rectangular, the "old" style were the ones that were pretty much square.
Here are a a pic of mine. I mount it on the vertical part of the engine guard right above the highway peg.
