Default Racing in the dirt! Longest first gear? And changing sprockets

I take my 77 Ironhead to motorcycle rodeos I am pretty sure that it is stock. I would like to be more competitive in the drag race! I was wondering if you could put a smaller tooth sprocket in the front like an 18 and a bigger one in the back like 54 or 55 and a really long first gear? So pretty much I would like to do a wheelie off the line and not have to shift before the end! I do not know anything about gearing and have read up a little bit about sprocket reduction somebody even told me to skip first and start out in second but then I lose the jump off the line! could I start out in second with the sprocket reduction in the front and bigger in the back any info would be gratefully appreciated
