My Son in law picked up a 79 FX with the stock fatbob tanks. He wants to install a Sportster tank but I wont let him cut off the original cast front top mount used for the stock tanks. I explained we could use a stock style Sportster tank mounted in the front to the original fatbob tank mount. We will cut off the rear frame fatbob tank mounts which can easily be welded back on should we choose to later on.
So ideally we want a Sportster tank with the stock front mounts and a tongue welded to the rear of the tank so we can drill and tap the top of the top bar to mount the back of the tank. We would also like a tank with the fuel outlet on the left side. I know I can get a tank with front and back stock mounts but then we would have to remove the rear mounts and have the tongue welded on.
Anyone know where we can get one with the mounts as I have described? Prefer new. Thanks
I've already looked at their stuff they don't have a tank with the mounts I want. I may have to just buy a stock tank and have the rear tongue welded on by someone. Thanks
