Definitely get the jacket. As stated before, much easier to deal with gloves if you want them in the future. My heated gear is from WarmNSafe, the same stuff is also sold under the FirstGear brand. Their remote control thermostat is great. Just one wire to plug into the bike to power jacket and gloves, and you can put the remote with the control ***** anywhere that it's handy. This is the gear that I use:

I use a Firstgear heated liner and glove inserts. Like traveling down the road wrapped in an electric blanket. Gives you a "who cares" attitude about the temps.

I have the Harley jacket liner and heated gloves. 27* when I left the house this house this morning , stayed toasty the whole ride. Also just got some leather over pants , I like those much better than chaps.

I've used the HD heated jacket and gloves with dual control for 5 or 6 six years. Wouldn't be without them. Oh, and LL Bean flannel lined jeans with lightweight long johns underneath. Good for all day rides down to about 40 degrees.

Heated jacket or jacket liners is the way to go in the cold weather.

The new Harley jacket liners are great. Much more light weight compared to the old models and don't need a thermostat or on/off switch. Have a built in control for lo-med-hi settings.

I was fine with a vest until about 35*, then I got chilly. I found that a vest was fine with a fairing - on my Dyna, I usually keep it parked below about 45* or so. I was thinking about a jacket liner for the really, really cold days but then I moved to SC so I figured the vest would be all I needed...

Most of the jacket liners I've seen are really bulky, and there's no way they'd fit under my jacket. Currently I've got a Keis vest with battery, but the battery is uncomfortable. Would love to find a proper jacket liner that doesn't feel like a jacket in itself, but would just replace the think quilt liner that came with the jacket. But no luck so far...

Check out the Gerbings liner, I fit mine under my riding jacket with the quilt liner removed.
