I haven't done that on my current bike but did it a couple times on a previous bike. My ultra has cruise control but my previous bike didn't. It had the throttle lock that wraps around the throttle grip and attaches to the switch housing on the handlebars. A couple times I extended my thumb to release the throttle lock and unknowingly hit the kill switch. Took a minute to figure it out lol

Yes, this. There's nothing on that side of the bars that I need to press, so can't see how I'd hit it accidentally. Left turn; yes, every damned time.

And as for the kill switch itself; yes, I use it every time to stop the engine, as per the owners' manual. Otherwise it ****s up my idle RPM if I just shut off the ignition.

It is the preferred method of shutting off the engine when parking, then turn the ignition switch off. Says so in the users manual. But, I once accidentally hit it with heavy gloves on waiting for a passing train and couldn't figure out for a long while why the bike wouldn't start (even with a kick-starter) until someone pointed it out to me. That was over 40 years ago.

Yep. Just the other day. I use both hand signals and the bike turn signals. Coming up on a right turn at a light and you guessed it. Had to coast around the corner hitting the start button trying not to get rear ended....... Damnit Jim.

I would like an explanation too. I never use the kill switch and my bike idles just fine.
