Im leaving out of Vancouver on the 4th as well. Planning on heading out on hwy 3 in BC, first night near Nelson at a friend's campground, then down into Idaho, Montana...
2013 we took hwy 1 to Alberta then south from there.
2015 we took hwy 3 to Trail and we tried to take Glacier Park Going-to-the-Sun but they closed the hwy from all the forest fires. We took it on the way back and it should be on your list if you haven't taken Going-to-the-Sun.

Just updating this.... Trip is all set. Riding solo... Leaving Vancouver, BC Aug 4; overnight at Toad Rock (near Nelson, BC); Aug 5 ride to Butte Montana via Sandpointe Idaho and down through the Bitteroot - overnight in Butte. Aug 6 Butte to Sturgis - booked in to the Buffalo Chip camping.
Ive done most of this ride before (except the final leg into Sturgis) beautiful ride - really looking forward to it.
