The fuel switch is confusing. Some people think the long end is the arrow. It's not. The short end has the arrow. If you study it closely I would be willing to bet that you've been riding on reserve not realizing it.
Exactly, the handle end should be down with the arrow pointed up, not down. With the switch in the"off"position horizontal with the ground, you should rotate it counter clockwise with the arrow pointed up to the "on" position and the handle pointing down. For reserve, with the switch in the "off" position you should rotate it clockwise with the arrow pointing down to the "res" position.
[:-] Uhmmm. Mine is opposite of that. And it's stamped "On" and "Reserve", so i'm 100% sure.
Mine is aftermarket with no markings at all. I had to replace it when the oem vacuum petcock started leaking and dripping gas. So with that said I very well may have been on reservethe whole time. I will pull it out Sunday night and look into it.

Damn, maybe they changed them up. I had a 97 but I can't remember for sure. Now that I think about it, I seem to remember reading about the change some time ago. Why they would change them I haven't a clue.
Hmm..that's really odd. Maybe when they changed to the Twinkies, they changed petcock's at the same time for some reason?..Everyone that has said their 'Reserve' was on the bottom, has the 88", if my observations are correct.
