RE: Left Turn Traffic Light
There are 3 intersections here that aren't 'bike friendly'. You can sit till you are old and gray and the left turn signal won't come on. If I am unfortunate enough to be first in line at these signals I just turn when it is safe.
Personally, I have never had a problem with not activating the switch, but I have heard a few say to park diagonally on the sensor pad. This is supposed to give the sensor maximum exposure and will activate it.
And... I also agree, there is no stupid questions around here. Don't ever feel bad about asking anything. We're all family here! I have learned a lot here on this site, just "listening". This is a great info source about all kinds of stuff.
I agree- if the light has cycled through twice and has not allowed my turn, then the next cycle, I turn left if there is no oncoming traffic. Having figured out if it is legal here in the state of Wa or not, but I am not going to keep sitting there like a fool! But I have found that if there are vehicles behind me that the light usually triggers. But if I am the only one - I do go.
Have y'all who've said you have trouble at certain lights contacted your local motor vehicle joint? If you ain't done it yet, get off'n yer butt and do it. They are required to fix the lights if there is a problem, and not activating for a bike is a legitimate problem. Sooner or later someone will get whacked at one of these lights, and if it because we, as bikers, didn't gripe to The Man about it, we share some of the blame. If you gripe and they don't take action, gripe again, and again, and again. And write to the local newsrag, too. Nothing like letting a little sunshine in on the beaurecrats.
thanks for the suggestion - it was a lightbulb moment for me - why didn't I think of doing that - actually didn't know my voice would matter....but am going to in the future.
