Default Ran a red light with a State cop behind me!

Friday evening me and my friend Kevin are out enjoying the awesome weather. We are out of town in an industrial area on at a 3 way intersection on a 2 lane highway with a turning lane. We are stopped on the side road turning left on to the main road. We wait and wait and waitafter about 2 or 3 minutes a State Patrol Officer pulls behind us as we are maneuvering the bikes to trying to trigger the light. I even moitioned for the cop to pull up a bit. No traffic coming either way after a minute or 2 more I look a Kevin and say "Huck it" he tilts his head "whatever"! I go as I go the light triggers in my right mirror I see it, in my left I see red and blue. I pull right over kill the bike and wait. The young cop says "What the heck are you doing?" I plead my case as he is grinning. He says "do you want some advice?' I say "sure". He says "Next time don't run a red light in front of a cop" and laughs. Then he told me he was trying to get us to move over so he could get along side to trigger the light. Then tells me next time to "safely" take a right turn and go down and turn around. I say "Thankyou" and he walks away shaking his head gets in his car and hauls ***. Then comes Kevin "you lucky fugger" shaking his head.

My guess is I just used up a "freebie". I was polite the cop was very polite!

Here in Tennessee it's legal for a motorcycle to run the light. After you stop and the light doesn't trip, you can go. A lot of people made jokes about it and the news media told lies about the law but we got it. People even said "TN must not have enough organ donars."

I was going to post on this subject. Glad he didn't give you a ticket, or was a jerk... I have been polite my last two stops and no ticket.... Anyway, I have a light on the way to work that never triggers. It's a left turn lane and it will cycle three or four times before a cage gets behind me and triggers it. I was hoping we had a cop or friend o' cop on this board for some advice on that one as well. I run it when I just get too hot sitting there and start to sweat.

They have the damn technology to take your picture and mail you a ticket if you run a red light. They can't make it so the light knows I'm sitting their waiting on my bike. What's wrong with this picture???

You need to be on the right or left edge of the sensor cut out not in the center. I DOT person explained when they cut he pavement , the sensors just go on the outside edge. Here In Idaho, the law is wait for one cycle, if it does not trip proceed with caution.

If I got a ticket I would argue it was a malfunctioning light and, as such, I treated it as a stop sign according to the traffic laws. Before running it though I would check to be sure there were grooves in the pavement or a radar gun above. If there's grooves you want to stop on those grooves. It's a metal detector, not a pressure plate, and is most sensitive directly above the grooves. If it's a radar gun there isn't much you can do about it. You could loop around and pass through it at a higher speed in the center of the lane, but that's a bit excessive. If there's neither grooves nor a radar gun then most likely it's just a slow light and running it is a traffic violation.

True, but in Court! All you are gonna do is agitate the cop. Tell it to the judge, you probably would stand a better chance. If you are cool with the cop you may walk away unscathed, as Shawn did. Always fight a bogus ticket!
