TKR in Dec 2011.. I was in Daytona March of 2012. Like others have said, the surgery is pretty tough, the first 2 weeks were hell for me. This surgery is not an overnight fix the rehab is tough and can be 2 to 3 months. I was about 12 months to 100% and I was riding 5 weeks after the replacement.

Do your rehab, tell you PT that you want to ride, find rehab for getting on the bike.

Also use the ice as much as you can after surgery and the contstant motion machine.

Default Left knee

Had my left knee replaced 22 Oct of last year. Today, almost 4 months later, I took my first ride, and will say I had no problem, other than trying to figure out which side to mount and dismount, and with my heavy boots, moving my ankle to shift was slower.

I scheduled mine in late Oct because the weather in Nov, Dec and Jan are the worst of our season. Today was 63° out. Beautiful day. I have not got all my strength back yet, so really need to get a gym membership to get me going. Good luck.

My riding partner is like the "6 Million Dollar Man".
Lots of metal inserted to keep him moving properly.

In the early part of '09 he had a RH knee replacement and had virtually no problems and by summer he was thrilled with the results.

In the winter of '14-'15 he had an identical, LH knee replacement by the same doctor and it's been a nightmare ever since.
Continual swelling (water build-up) that required draining and constant PT.
Earlier this year they finally "opened up" the knee, cleaned everything, gave him radiation (twice I believe) and he's still having issues with it but for now all he can do is keep exercising the knee to improve flexibility and hope time will be the answer.

He doesn't really have a problem riding his Ultra since he can stretch his leg out, but riding in, or getting in an out of smaller vehicles is a PIA.

Glad you had yours done Dave. Been pushing for 3 years here in Alberta and have a hell of a time even walking. All I get is "try this first". Maybe I should move to BC. Anyone who things our system is the greatest should try to get something done. I see a hip replacement in my future from damage caused by the slow actions of our "free" system. Saving money all around.

Right replaced January 2012.....bike out mid March. Do therapy and follow doc order and you'll be fine. Scope in left January 4, no problems. Anxious to get bike out mid March again!
No problem with either procedure.

I had both mine replaced 5 weeks ago, so far so good, keep doing the rehab and all should be well. I picked up a sidecar rig to get me by until I can throw a leg over my Ultra.

Just to throw a thought in from this side of the boarder, my winter landlord is from Canada. From what I could gather, your much higher tax rates is what pays for everyone to have medical. He says that most upper income levels have a supplement.
Down here, middle income workers working for the average good benefit company pay a lot monthly for medical. The Insurance plans then negotiate with doctors and hospitals and end up paying 20 cents or less on the $1.00. Then the hospitals and doctors write this off as a loss on their taxes.
I'm 67 on medicare and still pay close to $375 for medicare, supplement and prescription.
On any elective surgery, the checks to qualify must be met. Majority must fib to even get cataract surgery. Mine ending up being over $25,000 . Insurance ended up paying about $3000. and they wrote off and save on their taxes the $22,000. If you could not afford insurance, they get stuck with +$25,000.
Yours and even Mexico's is better then the US for the majority. Of course the rich need a good supplement and then whine about someone that may steal their crumbs.
