If I wanted to sit in stop and go traffic I would be in the cage with tunes and AC, not on top of a motor that is hovering around 350 degrees in stop and go traffic roasting my chestnuts. After riding all of these years in SoCal, I have no idea how the rest of the country even considers what they do as riding. I am hoping that the whole west coast goes to lane sharing. I know there is a move afoot to follow CA's lead in Oregon as well as Washington.
I was lane splitting today in Nashville...I came to the front of the line and rolled up next to a cop that was sitting at the light.
The cop rolled his window down and said "Hey, you know that's against the law, don't you?"
I just grinned and said...."Yeah", He laughed and rolled his window up.
Light turned green, he took off and I went about my business.
I do it in heavy traffic in Boston. Occasionally I'll run into a cop while lane splitting. Sometimes they don't care and go about their business. I've had a few yell at me. And I've gotten 1 ticket. I'm not a jackass about it and kinda creep by cars. Most people are cool and a few will make room for me. I've had a few try and block, but I just find another way around and keep it moving.
I don't get the hate for it at all. Nobody is forcing you to do it. If you'd rather sit n traffic, do it. Just don't get pissed off when I roll by you.
Why in the **** do you care how another man rides???? You must not have been paying attention to your riding if they surprised you
exactly right. There's always going to be somebody who wants to ride faster than you're going. Watch your mirrors, along with what's in front and to the side, and be prepared to let another rider go by.
When you see another rider coming up behind you, and obviously wants to get past, just pull over to the right side of the lane so they can move past on the left. There's no reason to get pissed off if they pass you in the same lane. Lots of room for two bikes side by side, especially on the interstates. It's not something that you may encounter every day, but if you ride often enough, it will happen with some frequency.
