Thanks for the picture of the serial number, Ryan, but it's very blurry. Can you post a clearer photo please. Then I'll compare everything with other examples in my collection.

No but he is my go to guy for parts and ideas on what will work and won't... He's really busy this time of year so I don't want to bother him with it until I know what all parts I will need.. And also the 48 pan says it has a plumber style intake heads if I bought later heads with the o ring style intake would they bolt on those cylinders fine?
You can use any heads from '48-'62. However, the '58 (I think it was '58-need to check Palmer's book) and later had more fin surface area. They'd still work fine but it's very noticeable that they're not the correct heads for a '48.
Are you going to try to have this motor rebuilt as a 61" or a 74"?
I'm buying a 48 el case set it's really hard to find el parts so if I bought fl top end would it work? Pistons hugs heads.. Also would a fl rotating assembly work in the case also? Basically could I have a fl in a el case
Check out this guy. His name is Dale Walksler. He knows a lot, and should be able to help you. Give him a call.

In 55 MoCo changed the intake manifold from a Plumber-style to the O-Ring style so you would need to change the intake in the heads and use the later type of intake manifold. Places like Carls Cycle Supply will do it for you.
So using later style heads is definitely NOT a bolt-n-go set up.
