But if you don't reset code from default, can't you use the default pin?
He could try all the obvious combinations 11111, 22222, etc, or the last 5 digits of the VIN and maybe get lucky, but there is no default factory code it's set at the dealership when it's delivered as a new vehicle. The dealer should ask you to set the new code before you leave but most never do.
I walked right up to a friends 2014 CVO road king he was loaning me for a weekend, entered 11111 and fired it right up before he could get to the house and bring me a fob.
Needless to say he has a new PIN code now. He'll never remember it but he can call me it's the same as my bike. He never even knew that you could start it without the fob.
Unfortunately this is a "you live you learn" situation for me. I love the idea no one can work around the security system and steal my bike but this is biting me in the a**. But I can only blame myself lol.
The OP bought the bike used so original owner may have changed the pin from what the dealership had set it at.
Yeah we contacted the original owner. He was at his job at the time but is attempting to find the code where he wrote it down and also look for the other fob that came with the bike new. Hopefully I get lucky there.
I had my dealership show me how to override my Fat Boy a few weeks ago for this very reason. They use the same code for all their bikes. It does mean all bikes from this, and probably other dealerships, are easy to steal but I usually lock my ignition anyway. Then I would have a locked ignition but know the pin code which wouldn't be much help if I lost the whole fob!
OP gonna come out OK for this.. Zept of i read right, he is down until then. That does suck..
I carry two extra Batts..
I don't remr the exact over ride sequence how-to. It's on my tablet which is Olways with me..
BTW. My code is 21234 like a bunch of other people... And i have a hidden spare key... You all can come take it for a joy ride now lol
I misplaced my fob once.. Ordered a bunch from eBay and wanted to set all of em... Guess what, fob count limit is 2.. Whatev
Bought an '03 Road King last October with 1 FOB & key. Found a used FOB on Ebay (Push button type), ordered another key from Harley & took the Ebay FOB I bought to the dealership to get programmed to the original FOB that came with the bike. Also had the over-ride code indiviualized to me in case the FOB quit working. Came home & put the extra key & FOB away... just in case!
A couple years ago went on a ride with about 15 other riders. Stopped for a break & could not get bike to start. Battery went out in FOB (2010 Road King). Of course, didn't have another battery but did have override code & used it to start bike, fly over to Walmart to get a battery & catch up with the other riders who had then stopped for lunch. Now I carry a few FOB batteries in the windshield bag.
After this message, I went and set the PIN on the bike. Recorded it on the card in the back of the owners manual then took photos of both sides of the card with my cell phone which shows the code and how to use it. Stored the photos on the Drive on my cell. Also opened the Fob and took a photo of the codes which are on a stamp inside the Fob. Also stored it on the Drive in my phone. Will now learn how to start the bike without of Fob in case I ever loose or forget it.
